The All-India Pre-Medical/ Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT) is a national level entrance test for the admission to MBBS and BDS courses, held in India and conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE), New Delhi. The qualified students secure their place in several medical colleges all across India. In the current scenario, 15% of the seats are run by the Union of India, State Governments, Municipal and other authorities, excluding certain states like Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu& Kashmir. The primary objective of this exam is to spread medical education all over India and make this education available to all regions of this nation.
The AIPMT has undergone various changes in the exam pattern section. The first change happened to occur in 2010 when the examination got replaced by a two-tier test- AIPMT Prelims and AIPMT Mains. The candidates who could qualify the AIPMT Prelims were eligible to give the AIPMT Mains test. The candidates with top ranks in the Prelims were qualified for the AIPMT Mains and they are selected solely based on their merit and performance. In 2013, the two-tier exam pattern got changed to National Eligibility cum Entrance Test and by 2014, this exam regained its status as AIPMT conducted in a single stage.
